What makes Iraq a special destination?

Iraq is the birthplace of civilization. The earliest urban settlements sprang up in southern Iraq, with Eridu, Ur, and Uruk being among the first urban cities globally. The remains of the Sumerians, followed by the Akkadians, Babylonians and the Assyrians, are still extant. Ancient ziggurats, gates, temples, palaces, and much more remain standing in their original sites.

Iraq also has a glorious medieval past, marked by the Abbasid Caliphate (r. 750-1258), which ruled from Central Asia to Morocco. Their monuments, including spiral minarets, schools, mosques and palaces, are preserved, particularly in Baghdad and Samarra.

Diverse Geography

Iraq's varied landscapes include the rugged mountains of the north, the vast deserts of the west, and the lush marshes of the south. This diverse geography showcases the country's natural beauty and ecological richness.

People and Culture

When it comes to people, Iraq boasts a rich ethno-religious diversity. Arabs, Kurds, Turkmen, and other ethnic minorities inhabit the land. Muslims, Christians, Yazidis, and Mandaeans coexist, creating a colorful mosaic of customs and beliefs that enrich Iraqi society.

The variety of food from Iraqi cuisine

The Iraqi cuisine offers an abundance of options to entice your taste buds. From hearty stews to fragrant rice dishes, the traditional foods in Iraq offer a delightful array of flavors. Explore dishes like the savory kubba, a meat-filled dumpling made with cracked wheat, or indulge in the aromatic Biryani, a flavorful rice dish layered with meat, vegetables, and aromatic spices. Dolma consists of grape or chard leaves stuffed with a mix of rice, meat, and spices, often accompanied by stuffed vegetables like tomatoes, peppers, and zucchinis, all slow-cooked to perfection. This dish is a staple at family gatherings and celebrations, symbolizing hospitality and tradition.

Masgouf, considered the national dish of Iraq, is a grilled carp, traditionally cooked over an open flame. The fish is butterflied, seasoned with salt, and then slow-cooked on a grill, imparting a smoky flavor. These traditional recipes reflect the rich culinary heritage that has been passed down through generations.

I highly recommend Ahmed for your tour of Iraq. I was particularly impressed with his historical knowledge of the region and also his flexibility to suit my needs. For example on my last day, I decided to save visiting Samarra for a future trip - he accommodated my last-minute request and organized for me to see other sites in Baghdad. Additionally, my flight arrived late to Baghdad and he happily waited for me at the airport until very early in the morning. I was also very satisfied with the driver and transportation for the trip. Touring with Ahmed felt like traveling with a friend. I am most grateful to him and hope to organize another tour with him soon.

I had a 5 day tour including Baghdad, Samarra, and Babylon and Ahmed and his team had the utmost sense of professionalism while also having the sense of being extremely hospitable and friendly. Everything was well organized and punctual. Ahmed was always extremely happy to help with whatever additional activities or sites I wanted to see while in Iraq. He is an avid reader about history and politics which make his insights very useful as an adept tour guide. If you are thinking about booking a guide that will show you the real Iraq while also getting a good description about all the sites you are visiting look no further!

I had a 3 day tour in the south of Iraq and was really amazing! Ahmed and his staff were definitely professional, explaining me all the important historical and cultural landmark of Iraq; they really made me comfortable and showed me amazing place

Hello Ahmed, I'm back in Paris. Thanks for the 1-day tour of Bagdad surroudings, it was better than I expected. The visit of the museum was very interesting, you answered all my questions. You showed me arround Babylon and the palace of Saddam Hussein at my own pace and we even had the time to see the lonely ruins of Kish. We had very good conversations and I think I understand a lot more about Irak thanks to you.
