What makes Iraq a special destination?

Iraq is the birthplace of civilization. The earliest urban settlements sprang up in southern Iraq, with Eridu, Ur, and Uruk being among the first urban cities globally. The remains of the Sumerians, followed by the Akkadians, Babylonians and the Assyrians, are still extant. Ancient ziggurats, gates, temples, palaces, and much more remain standing in their original sites.

Iraq also has a glorious medieval past, marked by the Abbasid Caliphate (r. 750-1258), which ruled from Central Asia to Morocco. Their monuments, including spiral minarets, schools, mosques and palaces, are preserved, particularly in Baghdad and Samarra.

Diverse Geography

Iraq’s landscapes range from the rugged mountains of the north to the vast deserts of the northwest and southwest, and the lush marshes of the south. This diverse geography highlights the country’s natural beauty and ecological richness.

People and Culture

Iraqis are diverse in their ethnic and religious communities. Muslims, Christians, Sabean-Mandaeans, and Yazidis coexist. Arabs, Kurds, and Turkmens live in harmony, creating a colorful mosaic of customs and traditions that enrich Iraqi society.

Iraq’s Cuisine

Iraqi cuisine offers a rich variety of flavors, from hearty stews to fragrant rice dishes. Kubba, a meat-filled dumpling made with cracked wheat, and Biryani, a spiced rice dish with meat and vegetables, are popular choices. Dolma, stuffed grape or chard leaves with rice and meat, is a staple at gatherings. Masgouf, Iraq’s national dish, is grilled carp cooked over an open flame for a distinct smoky flavor. These traditional dishes showcase Iraq’s deep culinary heritage and hospitality.

I highly recommend Ahmed for your tour of Iraq. I was particularly impressed with his historical knowledge of the region and also his flexibility to suit my needs. For example on my last day, I decided to save visiting Samarra for a future trip - he accommodated my last-minute request and organized for me to see other sites in Baghdad. Additionally, my flight arrived late to Baghdad and he happily waited for me at the airport until very early in the morning. I was also very satisfied with the driver and transportation for the trip. Touring with Ahmed felt like traveling with a friend. I am most grateful to him and hope to organize another tour with him soon.

I had a 5 day tour including Baghdad, Samarra, and Babylon and Ahmed and his team had the utmost sense of professionalism while also having the sense of being extremely hospitable and friendly. Everything was well organized and punctual. Ahmed was always extremely happy to help with whatever additional activities or sites I wanted to see while in Iraq. He is an avid reader about history and politics which make his insights very useful as an adept tour guide. If you are thinking about booking a guide that will show you the real Iraq while also getting a good description about all the sites you are visiting look no further!

I had a 3 day tour in the south of Iraq and was really amazing! Ahmed and his staff were definitely professional, explaining me all the important historical and cultural landmark of Iraq; they really made me comfortable and showed me amazing places.

Hello Ahmed, I'm back in Paris. Thanks for the 1-day tour of Bagdad surroudings, it was better than I expected. The visit of the museum was very interesting, you answered all my questions. You showed me arround Babylon and the palace of Saddam Hussein at my own pace and we even had the time to see the lonely ruins of Kish. We had very good conversations and I think I understand a lot more about Irak thanks to you.

I met Ahmed as a tour guide on my first trip to Baghdad, and he was a fantastic guide to introduce you to the culture and history of Iraq. Ahmed is very knowledgeable and has a genuine enthusiasm in sharing the historical wonders of his country. We went to many historical places and a road trip to the Ziggarut of Ur. I had such a good time in Iraq that I returned the following year, to learn more about Baghdad, Ancient Bablyon, and this time Ahmed and I visited the famous marshes in the south of country. I would 100% recommend Ahmed as a guide, who has now become a friend.

I took my tour with Ahmed based on his reviews and they were certainly right. Ahmed is not just an amazing guide, but also an amazing person! Ahmed was so passionate about the history of Iraq which meant he was well adversed in answering any questions I had. From BC created artefacts to modern political affairs, he had everything covered! Any requests or changes I wanted were always met with a smile. As we had time and I had still had 2-3 things to see in Baghdad. Ahmed happily took me around as part of the tour and expected nothing in return.
