Martyr Monument

A memorial built in 1983 to commemorate the sacrifices of Iraqis, especially during the war against Iran.
The monument consists of three main elements: the turquoise split dome, the Iraqi flag representing the Iraqi martyr, and the well symbolizing the continuum of sacrifice in defense of the nation’s soil and dignity.
The monument creates a visual illusion: when viewed from the beginning of the street, it appears as a single closed dome, but as you approach closer, it starts to open.
There are 150,000 names of fallen Iraqi soldiers and officers from the Iraq-Iran war inscribed after the end of the war manually on the walls beneath the monument.
